About the product

Curanail 5% Fungal Nail Treatment contains amorolfine, an antifungal medicine used to treat mild to moderate fungal infections of the fingernails and toenails. It works by interfering with the cell membranes of the fungi, stopping their growth and eventually destroying them. The treatment comes as a medicated nail lacquer that is applied directly to the affected nail once a week, allowing the active ingredient to penetrate and treat the infection at its source. Consistent use is essential, as treatment can take several months until a healthy nail fully grows back. Curanail helps restore the appearance and health of infected nails over time.

Frequently Asked Questions

Have a question ? we're here to help

How can I reduce my risk of developing a fungal nail infection?

You can reduce your risk of developing a fungal nail infection by:

  • keeping your hands and feet clean and dry.
  • wearing well-fitting shoes made of natural materials and clean cotton socks.
  • clipping your nails to keep them short.
  • not sharing towels and socks with other people.
  • not walking around barefoot in public pools, showers, or locker rooms.
  • replacing old footwear that could be contaminated with fungi.
  • treating athlete’s foot as soon as possible to stop the infection spreading to your nails.

Can I use Curanail 5% Fungal Nail Treatment if I am pregnant or breast-feeding?

Do not use Curanail 5% Fungal Nail Treatment if you are pregnant, might become pregnant or are breast-feeding. If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you might be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using this treatment.

What if I accidentally swallow Curanail 5% Fungal Nail Treatment?

If you, or anyone else, accidentally swallows the medicine you should talk to your doctor or pharmacist or go to the nearest hospital straight away.

What if I forget to use Curanail 5% Fungal Nail Treatment?

You should not worry if you forget to use the treatment exactly a week after the last time – when you remember, use the medicine again, in the same way as before.

What happens if I stop using Curanail 5% Fungal Nail Treatment?

You should not stop using the treatment until your nail improves. You can see the images in the information leaflet to help you understand what you are looking for. If you have any further questions, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

Can I use Curanail every day?

Curanail is designed for once-weekly application after the initial treatment, as its effects last on the nail surface for several days. Daily use is not necessary and may increase the risk of side effects without improving results. Follow the instructions in the patient leaflet for best outcomes.

Why can you only use Curanail on two nails?

Curanail is recommended for mild infections affecting no more than two nails because more widespread infections may require oral antifungal medicines or specialist care. This ensures the treatment is both safe and effective for the right severity of infection.

What is an alternative to Curanail?

Alternatives include other amorolfine-based lacquers such as Loceryl, or topical treatments containing urea or terbinafine. Severe or multiple-nail infections may require oral antifungals like terbinafine tablets. Your pharmacist or GP can help choose the most appropriate option.

What is the difference between Curanail and Loceryl?

Curanail and Loceryl both contain amorolfine 5% and work in the same way. The main difference is packaging, branding, and availability – Curanail is often sold in smaller packs for mild infections, while Loceryl may be available in larger bottles or as a prescription.

Curanail 5% Fungal Nail Treatment should be kept away from heat, not stored above 30°C, and the bottle tightly closed after use. The treatment should also not be used after the expiry date which is stated on the pack, this refers to the last day of that month.

Directions

The following steps walk through how to apply Curanail 5% Fungal Nail Treatment.

  • Prepare your nail: Start by protecting your healthy nails from potential infection spread. Always use a fresh, clean nail file specifically for the infected areas. Gently file down both the infected portions and the surface of the affected nail but never use this same file on your healthy nails as this could transfer the infection to unaffected areas.
  • Clean your nail: Take one of the provided swabs and thoroughly clean the entire nail surface to remove any debris or buildup. Make sure to clean all areas that will receive treatment. Keep this swab safely aside after cleaning, as you’ll need to use it again later for cleaning the applicator.
  • Treat the nail: Dip the applicator directly into the nail lacquer bottle without wiping off any excess product on the bottle’s edge. Apply the lacquer evenly across the complete surface of the infected nail, ensuring full coverage. Allow the treated nail to dry completely for approximately 3 minutes, after which it becomes water-resistant and you can wash normally, though you should wait at least 10 minutes before applying any cosmetic nail polish.
  • Clean the applicator: The applicator can be reused multiple times, but proper cleaning after each use is essential to prevent spreading the infection. You should use the same swab for Step 2 to clean the applicator thoroughly, being careful not to touch the freshly treated nails with the swab. Finally, close the nail lacquer bottle tightly and dispose of the used swab carefully.

After the first use each infected nail should be treated once a week – removing the old lacquer and any nail varnish from your nails using a swab.
