As a leading online healthcare provider, e-Surgery is committed to providing our patients with high-quality treatments and excellent service. At the same time, we strive to make our prices as affordable, to keep private treatments as accessible as possible. One of our popular treatments is Mounjaro (Tirzepatide), an innovative medication for weight loss management.
In this article, we’ll address the most common queries about Mounjaro to ensure that you have all the information you may need.
How does Mounjaro KwikPen work?
Mounjaro (tirzepatide) is a once-weekly injectable pen that promotes weight loss through multiple mechanisms.
It acts as a dual glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) and glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist.
By mimicking these naturally occurring hormones, Mounjaro helps regulate blood sugar levels, slows gastric emptying, and increases feelings of fullness. This leads to reduced appetite and calorie intake. Additionally, it may enhance metabolism and fat burning.
These combined effects result in significant weight loss for many users, particularly when used in conjunction with a healthy diet and exercise regimen.
What are the common side effects of Mounjaro?
Mounjaro, like many medications, can cause side effects in some users. The most common side effects are gastrointestinal in nature, including nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and constipation.
Some people may experience abdominal pain or discomfort. Other reported side effects include headache, fatigue, and injection site reactions such as redness or itching. As the body adjusts to the medication, these side effects often diminish over time.
How do I reduce some of the common side effects of Mounjaro?
You can reduce Nausea by taking the recommended steps below:
- Eat smaller, more frequent meals throughout the day instead of large meals.
- Stay hydrated, but avoid drinking large amounts with meals.
- Avoid lying down immediately after eating; stay upright for at least an hour.
- Try ginger products like ginger tea or ginger biscuits, which can help settle your stomach.
Remember, if nausea persists or becomes severe, consult your healthcare provider and discontinue Mounjaro use. They may adjust your dosage or suggest other management strategies.
You can reduce constipation by taking the recommended steps below:
- Increase your fiber intake by eating more fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.
- Stay well-hydrated by drinking plenty of water throughout the day.
- Exercise regularly, as physical activity can help stimulate bowel movements.
- Consider using a gentle, over-the-counter laxative or stool softener, but consult your doctor first.
When should I take Mounjaro? What is the dosing schedule?
Mounjaro (tirzepatide) is typically administered once weekly. Here are the key points about its dosing schedule:
- Day and time: Choose a consistent day each week to take the injection. Try to administer it around the time on your chosen day.
- Starting dose: The usual starting dose is 2.5 mg once weekly for the first 4 weeks.
- Dose escalation: After the initial 4 weeks, the dose is usually increased gradually, as directed by your healthcare provider. Common increments are 2.5 mg every 4 weeks until the target dose is reached.
- Maximum dose: The maximum recommended dose is 15 mg once weekly.
- Missed dose: If you miss a dose, take it as soon as possible with 4 days of the missed dose. If more than 4 days have passed, skip the missed dose and take the next dose on the regularly scheduled day.
- Relation to food: Mounjaro can be taken with or without food.
Always follow your doctors specific instructions, as they may adjust the dosing schedule based on your individual needs and response to the medication.
How do I use the Mounjaro KwikPen?
You can use the Mounjaro KwikPen by following the below steps:
Preparing the Injection:
- Inspect your Mounjaro pen.
- Ensure the medication name and dose are correct, it’s not expired (Please remember the MHRA have extended the expiry dates for some Mounjaro pens), and the liquid is clear to slightly yellow.
- Remove the pen cap and wipe the red inner seal with an alcohol swab.
- Attach a new pen needle by twisting it on tightly.
- Remove both the outer and inner needle shields.
- Keep the outer shield for later use.
- Prime the pen by turning the dose knob until you hear two clicks and see the extended line in the dose window.
- Hold the pen with the needle pointing up and tap it gently to collect air bubbles.
- Push the dose knob in and count to 5 to release some medicine into the air.
- You should see a small amount at the needle tip.
Injection Process:
- Choose your injection site – either your thigh, abdomen, or the back of your upper arm. You should rotate your injection sites weekly.
- Turn the dose knob until the [1] icon appears in the dose window.
- Insert the needle into your skin at a 90-degree angle.
- Inject the medicine by pushing the dose knob in completely. Hold for 5 seconds.
- Remove the needle from your skin and check that the 0 icon is visible in the dose window, confirming full dose delivery.
- If you see blood, lightly press the site with gauze or a cotton ball.
Disposing the Needle:
- Carefully replace the outer needle shield.
- Unscrew the capped needle and dispose of it in a sharps container.
- Replace the pen cap on your Mounjaro pen.

As mentioned earlier, we follow UK regulatory standards to ensure that the medication remains at 2-8 degrees Celsius for at least 48 hours during transportation and packaging. In rare situations, your medication may arrive warm.
However, you can still use your medication if it has exceeded the temperature range during transportation. The six-week treatment expiry window will remain unaffected, and your medication will still be safe to use.
If in doubt, please make sure the solution in the pen looks clear or slightly yellowish. If it looks cloudy please be cautious and write to us on [email protected] with an image or video of the medication.
Please remember that according to the manufacturer, once you first open your package, you can store your pen at room temperature (below 30°C or 86°F) for up to 21 days.
