Norgeston works by thickening the mucus inside the cervix which makes it much tougher for the incoming sperm to enter the womb. It also works by changing the lining within the womb which makes it harder for the egg to grow within it. Norgeston has been known to sometimes stop ovulation completely.

The medication should be taken orally, usually with a glass of water. You should take the Norgeston tablet at the same time every day, making sure it’s within the 3-hour window of the time you took it the previous day.

Norgeston should not be taken if you have any of these conditions as it could put your health at risk:

• You are pregnant or think you might be pregnant
• You have or have had severe liver disease or liver tumours
• Had or have breast cancer
• Experience bleeding from the vagina
• Experience blood clots
• Suffer with diabetes
• Have had a stroke or heart attack
