Have a question ? we're here to help
The FemSeven Patch is a transdermal patch that is classed as a hormone replacement therapy (HRT). It contains oestrogen which is a female hormone. It is prescribed to post-menopausal women who have had a minimum of 18 months since their last period. The patches are placed onto the skin and are worn continuously.
The FemSeven patch contains the oestrogen hormone oestradiol, which is the main oestrogen produced naturally by the ovaries. During menopause, oestrogen levels decline as the ovaries stop producing oestrogens like oestradiol. This drop leads to symptoms like hot flashes, vaginal dryness, mood changes.
FemSeven patches help replace the oestradiol that the body is no longer producing. When applied, the patch releases a continuous dose of oestradiol that gets absorbed through the skin into the bloodstream.
The steady supply of oestradiol from the patch circulates in the blood to the cells that have oestrogen receptors. This replaces the oestrogen that the ovaries no longer make after menopause.
Oestradiol is the major and most potent oestrogen hormone in women. It is produced naturally by the ovaries before menopause. The oestradiol in FemSeven patches helps supplement and replace declining levels of oestradiol during and after menopause. This helps reduce the uncomfortable symptoms such as vaginal dryness, hot flushes and sleep disturbances.
The FemSeven Patch should be placed on the body for 7 days, being replaced once a week. You should follow the correct dosage as instructed by your GP or pharmacist.
How to correctly apply the FemSeven Patch:
Remove the pouch patch from the pouch.
Holding just the edges, peel off half of the plastic liner, avoiding contact with the adhesive side.
Apply the exposed half of the patch to a smooth area of skin like your hips, buttocks, or lower abdomen. Do not place over waistbands or where clothing may rub.
Peel off the second half of the liner and use your palm to gently adhere the full patch to your skin.
Press firmly with your hand for 30 seconds to activate the adhesive. Your body heat helps it stick properly.
Smooth down all edges to ensure the patch is flat and making good contact with your skin
You should read through the patient information leaflet before using the medication. It will contain more detailed information about the medication.
