What are Clopidogrel 75mg tablets used for?
Clopidogrel Tablets are taken by adults to prevent blood clots (thrombi) from forming in hardened blood vessels (arteries), a process known as atherothrombosis, which can lead to atherothrombotic events (such as stroke, heart attack, or death).
You may have been prescribed Clopidogrel Tablet to help prevent blood clots and reduce the risk of these severe events because:
You have a condition of hardening of arteries (also known as atherosclerosis)
You have previously experienced a heart attack, stroke or have a condition known as peripheral arterial disease
You have experienced a severe type of chest pain known as ‘unstable angina’ or ‘myocardial infarction’ (heart attack).
You have an irregular heartbeat, a condition called ‘atrial fibrillation’, and you cannot take medicines known as ‘oral anticoagulants’ (vitamin K antagonists) which prevent new clots from forming and prevent existing clots from growing
an overwhelming sense of anxiety (similar to having a panic attack)
coughing or wheezing
Although the chest pain is often severe, some people may only experience minor pain, similar to indigestion. In some cases, there may not be any chest pain at all, especially in women, older people, and people who have diabetes.
It is recommended that if you are experiencing any of these symptoms in conjunction and think you may be at risk of having a heart attack you contact your GP immediately.
It’s the overall pattern of symptoms that helps to determine whether you are having a heart attack.
