Ovex Family Pack contains mebendazole, an antiparasitic medicine used to treat threadworm (pinworm) infections. Threadworms are small intestinal worms that cause itching around the anus, particularly at night. Mebendazole works by preventing the worms from absorbing the sugars they need to survive, which kills them over several days. The family pack provides enough single-dose treatment for multiple household members, as threadworm infections spread easily. Everyone in the home is usually treated at the same time, even if they have no symptoms, to prevent reinfection. Good hygiene practices should be followed alongside treatment to fully clear the infection.
Ovex is a medication primarily used to treat threadworms (also known as pinworms) infections. It contains the ingredient mebendazole, which works by preventing the worms from absorbing sugars they need to survive. This causes the worms to die off within a few days.

Ovex is used to treat infections caused by threadworms. It is effective in eliminating the worms from the gut. Although Ovex treats the current infection, it doesn’t prevent a new infection. Therefore, hygiene measures are also recommended alongside treatment to prevent reinfection.
If anyone takes more than one Ovex tablet, contact a doctor or your nearest Accident & Emergency department, taking the information leaflet and pack with you as soon as possible.
If you forget to take your Ovex dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it’s nearly time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and proceed with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose.
Ovex begins to work immediately after taking it, but it may take a few days for you to notice the effects. The medication quickly kills the threadworms, though it may take up to 3 days for the worms to be completely expelled from the body.
Yes, the Ovex Family Pack is designed for treating threadworm infections in multiple family members at the same time. Sharing the pack ensures that all infected members are treated, reducing the risk of re-infection in the household. It’s important that each family member is given a dose according to the package instructions.
There are no specific dietary restrictions required while taking Ovex. However, maintaining a balanced and healthy diet can support overall well-being and recovery. Drink plenty of fluids and eat a fibre-rich diet to help ease the passage of worms.
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, you should consult with a healthcare professional before taking Ovex. However, it is recommended by BNF that you avoid taking this medication if you’re either pregnant or breastfeeding.
