What is Ovex used for?
Ovex is used to treat infections caused by threadworms. It is effective in eliminating the worms from the gut. Although Ovex treats the current infection, it doesn’t prevent a new infection. Therefore, hygiene measures are also recommended alongside treatment to prevent reinfection.
What if I take too much Ovex?
If anyone takes more than one Ovex tablet, contact a doctor or your nearest Accident & Emergency department, taking the information leaflet and pack with you as soon as possible.
What if I forget to take Ovex?
If you forget to take your Ovex dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it’s nearly time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and proceed with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose.
How long does it take for Ovex to work?
Ovex begins to work immediately after taking it, but it may take a few days for you to notice the effects. The medication quickly kills the threadworms, though it may take up to 3 days for the worms to be completely expelled from the body.

Directions
Ovex is a single-tablet dose that should be chewed or swallowed whole. If you are giving it to a young child, crush the tablet.
The recommend dose in adults and children aged 2 years and older is one tablet. This should do the job, but if you are re-infected your pharmacist may recommend that a second tablet is taken after two weeks.
If you find you do not feel better, or if you feel worse after a few days, you must talk to a doctor.
Side Effects
Ovex Tablets can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. If you experience any of these side effects, it’s recommended that you stop using the medicine and talk to your doctor or pharmacist:
- stomach pain
- stomach discomfort
- diarrhoea
- wind

Ingredients
The active ingredient in this medication is Mebendazole.
The other ingredients are microcrystalline cellulose, sodium starch glycollate, talc, maize starch, sodium saccharin, magnesium stearate, cottonseed oil – hydrogenated, orange flavour, colloidal anhydrous silica, sodium laurilsulfate and orange yellow S (E110).
Warnings
You should not use Ovex Family Pack For Threadworm Infection if you have ever had a bad reaction to any of the ingredients, if it is for a child under 2 years, or if you are pregnant or think you are pregnant.
Also, talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines including:
- Metronidazole (a drug used to treat bacterial and protozoan infections) as a serious skin reaction can rarely occur.
- Cimetidine (a medicine used to treat excess stomach acidity).
