Differin Cream is a prescription-only cream for acne. Its active ingredient is adapalene, which has an anti-inflammatory effect, reducing soreness and irritation.
You apply it to your skin. Only very small amounts are absorbed into the body, and it has little effect except on the surface of the skin.
Differin Cream is used on the face, chest or back to treat mild to moderate acne, where the skin may have lots of blackheads, spots and pimples.
Apply Differin Cream at night, before you go to bed, unless your prescriber has told you otherwise. Wash the area with water first and make sure your skin is clean and dry. Then put a thin film of cream on the affected areas with your fingertips, rub it in gently, and wash your hands afterwards. Keep it away from your eyes, mouth and the corners of your nose.
If you also use another acne product that contains benzoyl peroxide, erythromycin or clindamycin, apply that one in the morning and Differin at night. Avoid strong sunlight and artificial UV light, and use sunscreen and protective clothing over the treated area.
There’s no set time for Differin Cream to start working. How long you’ll need to use it depends on how quickly your acne improves, and after 3 months it’s important to see your prescriber, who can check how your acne has improved.
Yes. Differin Cream is applied once a night, unless your prescriber has told you otherwise. Using more than directed won’t clear your acne any quicker, and it can make your skin red and irritated, with some peeling or discomfort.
If your skin becomes sensitive or irritated, stop using the cream and tell your prescriber. You may be asked to use it less often, or to stop until your skin settles.
