Levonorgestrel morning after pill is the generic version of the emergency contraceptive Levonelle, which can prevent 84% of expected pregnancies when you take Levonogestrel within 72 hours of having unprotected sex. Levonogestrel is also known as the morning after pill.
Always use the Levonorgestrel morning after pill exactly as described in the leaflet or as your doctor/pharmacist has told you. If you are unsure, check with your doctor or pharmacist.
Levonorgestrel morning after pill must be taken no later than 72 hours (3 days) after you have unprotected intercourse. The sooner Levonogestrel is taken the more effective the treatment is.
If you have already taken Levonorgestrel morning after pill once in your menstrual cycle than you are not protected from pregnancy if you have unprotected sex again.
If you vomit after taking the morning after pill you may need to take Levonogestrel again.

There is no interaction between alcohol and the Levonorgestrel morning after pill.
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken any other medication. The effectiveness of Levonorgestrel morning after pill may be reduced by the following medications
- Barbiturates and other medications used to treat epliepsy
- Medicines used to treat tuberculosis
- Treatment for HIV
- St John’s Wort
You can NOT take Levonorgestrel morning after pill if:
- You are allergic to any of the ingredients

Levonorgestrel morning after pill can massively reduce the changes of an unwanted pregnancy after unprotected intercourse.
Levonorgestrel is thought to prevent:
- up to 95% of pregnancies if taken within 24 hours
- up to 85% if taken within 48 hours
- up to 58% if taken within 72 hours
If you miss the window of 72 hours (3 days) in which to take Levonorgestrel then it will be less effective. You can have an emergency IUD fitted for up to 5 days after unprotected sex.
Levonorgestrel morning after pill is the generic version of Levonelle.
