Tetralysal is the branded version of the antibiotic Lymecycline which is used to cure acne. Bacteria on the surface on the skin can cause infection and inflammation of the skin which can be one of the major causes of acne.
Tetralysal works to clear the infected area which reduces the appearance of acne and the formation of whiteheads and blackheads.
The medication can take up to 8 weeks to become effective. Our doctors will not issue more than 3 months worth of treatment at one time.
The medication is to be taken once a day over the course of several weeks. All capsules come in the 408mg strength.

What is Tetralysal?
Tetralysal is an antibiotic. Antibiotics are used to kill bacteria; acne is cause by bacteria. Acne can include a series of different types, including blackheads, pimples, nodular acne, baby acne, acne vulgaris, scalp acne and many more.
How do you take Tetralysal?
Tetralysal comes in capsule form and you should follow the advice on the label. If you are unsure you can use our Ask-A-Pharmacist service for free. Tetralysal should not be taken for more than 3 months at a time without a blood test.
Side effects of Tetralysal?
As with any form of medication Tetralysal tablets have side effects. Please read the patient information leaflet which is enclosed in the box with your medication for the full list of side effects. Below are a few of the most common side effects that you many experiences when taking the course of treatment

Interactions with alcohol and food?
The effectiveness of Tetralysal can be affected slightly if you consume large quantities of milk products. If you want to ensure the effectiveness of the medication then it would be best to avoid eating large amounts of cheese, milk or yoghurt during the treatment. Alcohol can have a drying effect on your skin so is best limited during the treatment.
Any interactions with other drugs?
Tetralysal interacts with the following treatments
- Nutritional supplements containing calcium, aluminum, magnesium, iron or zinc
- Indigestion medication
- Ulcer healing medication
Is there any reason why I would not be able to take Tetralysal?
You cannot take Tetralysal if
- You are allergic to any of the ingredients
- You have ever had kidney disease
- You are pregnant, planning to become pregnant or are breast feeding
- You are under 8 years of age
- You are taking oral retinoids
Why should I take Tetralysal?
Tertalysal is extremely effective in preventing bacteria from spreading. Tetralysal stops the bacteria from producing proteins, which it needs to survive. Therefore, the bacteria are unable to reproduce and spread meaning that Tetralysal will effectively reduce acne.
What's the difference between Tetralysal and Lymecycline?
Tetralysal is the branded version of Lymecycline. This means that they both have the same effectiveness and are just as safe. As Tetralysal is branded, it is more expensive.
