Cerelle (Desogestrel) is a contraceptive pill. It is sometimes known as the ‘mini pill’ or the progesterone only pill. Cerelle tablets are a highly effective form of regular contraception if taken correctly.
Have a question ? we're here to help
Cerelle is a contraceptive pill that prevents you from getting pregnant. Progesterone-only pills such as Cerelle do not protect you from sexually- transmitted infections (STIs), only condoms can help do this. Cerelle contains a small amount of one type of the female sex hormone progesterone, desogestrel.
Cerelle is distinct from other mini-pills in having a dose that in most cases is high enough to prevent the egg cell from ripening. As a result, Cerelle provides high contraceptive efficacy. In contrast to the combined pill, Cerelle can be used by women who do not tolerate oestrogens and by women who are breastfeeding. A disadvantage is that vaginal bleeding may occur at irregular intervals during the use of Cerelle. You also may not have any bleeding at all.
Cerelle tablets 75mg contains a small amount of one type of female sex hormone, the progestogen called desogestrel.
Cerelle should be taken once a day at the same time. Once you finish one pack start a new one right away without a break in between.
If you buy Cerelle you should take one tablet each day and should take a pill whole with water at the same time each day.
The Cerelle packet is marked with the day of the week, you should follow the arrow until the strip is empty (28 days). Following this, you should start a new pack the next day. Every time you start a new strip of Cerelle take a tablet from the top row. Don’t start with just any tablet. For example, if you start on a Wednesday, you should take the tablet from the top row marked Wed. You should continue to take one tablet a day, until the strip is empty, always following the direction indicated by the arrows. By looking at the back of the strip of tablets you can easily check if you have already taken your tablet on a particular day. You may have some bleeding during the use of Cerelle, but you must continue to take your tablet as normal. When a strip is empty, you must start with a new pack of Cerelle on the next day without interruption and without waiting for bleeding.

Contraception is a great way for women to manage their periods and prevent pregnancy. If you buy Cerelle online or from your local GP it can also stop a period in some women which can be an added benefit. Cerelle and other contraception can also be a good way to reduce acne, control hormones and help treat endometriosis.

A common question is what do I do if I miss/forget to take the pill:
If you are less than 12 hours late
Take the tablet as soon as you remember, and take the next one at the usual time. The contraceptive action of Cerelle is
maintained.
If you are more than 12 hours late
If you are more than 12 hours late in taking any tablet, you may not be completely protected against pregnancy. The more consecutive tablets you have missed, the higher the risk that you might fall pregnant. Take a tablet as soon as you remember, and take the next one at the usual time. This may mean taking two tablets on the same day.
This is not harmful. (If you have forgotten more than one tablet you don’t need to take the earlier missed ones). You
are not protected against pregnancy. Continue to take your tablets as usual, but you must also use an extra method, such as a condom for the next 7 days.
If you are more than 12 hours late taking your tablet and have had sex it is safe to use emergency contraception.
If are not using another form of contraception wait for your period to begin. On the first day of your period take the first Cerelle tablet. You need not take extra contraceptive precautions. You may also start on days 2-5 of your cycle, but in that case, make sure you also use an additional contraceptive method (barrier method) for the first 7 days of tablet-taking.
If you are switching from another form of contraception you can start taking Cerelle on the day after you take the last tablet from the present Pill pack, or on the day of removal of your vaginal ring or patch (this means no tablet-, ring- or patch-free break). If your present Pill pack also contains inactive tablets you can start Cerelle on the day after taking the last active tablet.
As with any form of medication, when you buy Cerelle online, or get prescriptions from your local GP, the pill may have side effects. For a full list of side effects before you buy Cerelle online, please read the Patient Information Leaflet for Cerelle.
Below are a few of the common side effects of taking Cerelle:

Patients with lactose intolerance should be aware that Cerelle tablet also contains 52.34 mg lactose (as lactose monohydrate). If you have been told by your doctor that you have an intolerance to some sugars, contact your doctor before taking this medicinal product.
DO NOT take Cerelle if you are taking medication for:
If you are taking medicines or herbal products that might make Cerelle less effective, a barrier contraceptive method should also be used. Since the effect of another medicine on Cerelle may last up to 28 days after stopping the medicine, it is necessary to use the additional barrier contraceptive method for that long. Your doctor can tell you if you need to take additional contraceptive precautions and if so, for how long. Cerelle may also interfere with how other medicines work, causing either an increase in effect (e.g. medicines containing ciclosporin) or a decrease in effect (e.g. lamotrigine).
Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking any medicine.
You should not take Cerelle if:
Talk to your Doctor before taking Cerelle if:
The combined pill contains two different kinds of hormones (oestrogen and progesterone) while the mini-pill (Cerelle) only contains progestogen. The mini pill is also commonly referred to as the progesterone-only-pill or POP.
Apart from the ingredients the two pills are also used slightly differently. The combined pill is designed to be taken once-a-day for 3 weeks, followed by a 7-day pill-free break, the mini pill is to be taken once a day, every day. So during the 7-day break on the combined pill, you will have a period but because there’s no break on the mini-pill you will likely notice irregular menstrual cycles and probably no periods at all.
Different women find that different pills work differently for them, so if one is not right for you there are plenty of other options.

If you vomit within 3 to 4 hours after taking the pill or have severe diarrhoea, the active substance may not have been completely absorbed. Take another pill as soon as you can and use protection.
The contraceptive pill prevents unwanted pregnancy. If you buy Cerelle it is a progesterone-only pill which means that it does not contain oestrogen; this may be better for you if you’ve had issues with the combined pill in the past.
