Amitriptyline Update: Why We Can No Longer Offer This Treatment

We just wanted to take the time out to explain what has happened with our previously stocked Amitriptyline Tablets.

Previously e-Surgery would stock Amitriptyline for the treatment of neuropathic pain, however, following a recent review from the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC), it has been requested that Amitriptyline no longer be sold online. Whilst this medication was distributed from e-Surgery as a treatment for neuropathic pain, you will notice if you google “Amitriptyline “  it is listed as an antidepressant. Relating to this, our regulating body the GPhC has alerted us to the fact that this medication has been used inappropriately and abused so is therefore no longer safe to prescribe online. Please be aware that you will still be able to get this treatment from your GP/Doctor.

Will Amitriptyline Return?

Here at e-Surgery, we hope to offer you Amitriptyline again as soon as possible, as we are aware this is an essential medication for some of our patients. Unfortunately due to this change in guidance, many online pharmacies have been advised to remove Amitriptyline from sale. As a private online service, we are unable to access patient records from the NHS therefore we cannot guarantee when this will be available online from e-Surgery. If in the future we have access to the Summary Care Records from the NHS, and with patient consent, we will be able to prescribe Amitriptyline again.

Where to buy Amitriptyline?

Regardless of whether the GPhC have decided to restrict the sale of Amitriptyline online, you will still need access to your medication. Your local GP surgery will still be able to provide you with a prescription for Amitriptyline.

Can you get amitriptyline over the counter UK?

Amitriptyline is a prescription-only medication so can not be purchased over the counter without a prescription.
