Prescription Only Medication (POM)
Zelleta Tablets are a contraceptive pill used to prevent pregnancy. Zelleta Tablets contain a small amount of one type of female sex hormone, the progestogen desogestrel. Zelleta tablets are called a progestogen-only-pill (POP), or a minipill. Contrary to the combined pill, the POP or mini-pill does not contain an oestrogen hormone next to the progestogen.

Zelleta tablets are a contraceptive, aiming to prevent pregnancy. They consist of a minimal dosage of the female sex hormone known as progesterone. Zelleta tablets are the branded name of desogestrel and are categorised as progestogen-only pills (POPs) or often referred to as minipills. In contrast to combined contraceptive pills, POPs or minipills do not include an additional oestrogen hormone alongside the progesterone.
Zelleta Tablets work by thickening the mucus surrounding the cervix, making it harder for sperm to get into the uterus, stopping it from fertilising eggs. Zelleta Tablets also prevent ovulation by stopping the release of the eggs from the ovaries. If you take the medication properly, it can be highly effective at stopping pregnancy.
Zelleta Tablets should be taken by swallowing them. The medicine will come in a pack of 28, which is a 4-week supply. You need to take 1 tablet per day, and at the same time of day.
The instructions can be found in the patient information leaflet, which is included in the packaging. The leaflet can also be found online.
