Clonidine is a type of medicine called a vasodilator. They have many uses, but they are mainly used to prevent hot flushes and night sweats that may occur in women during menopause.

Clonidine Tablets help to relax blood vessels in the heart and other parts of the body such as the brain or skin. As a result, it helps treat menopausal hot flushes or sweats.
Menopause occurs anywhere around the age of 40-58, and it refers to a phase in a women’s life when she no longer has her period. Clonidine Tablets may take 2 to 4 weeks to work fully and for you to start to feel better. Depending on your condition you’ll take them 1 to 3 times a day for as long as you need it.

You should take Clonidine Tablets exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure.
Clonidine Tablets are taken orally. The usual starting dose is 50 micrograms (two tablets), two times a day. If necessary, after two weeks, your doctor may increase the dose to 75 micrograms (three tablets), two times a day.
However, keep in mind that everyone is different, and your doctor may prescribe you a different dosage depending on your condition.
Do not take Clonidine Tablets if any of the following apply to you:
you are pregnant, likely to get pregnant, or are breast-feeding
you are allergic (hypersensitive) to clonidine or any other ingredients of this medicine
you have a slow heart rate due to heart problems
If you are not sure whether you should start taking Clonidine Tablets, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.
If you forget a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is nearly time for the next dose, skip the missed one. You must not take a double dose to make up for the missed dose. It’s also important that you do not stop taking Clonidine Tablets without first talking to your doctor.

Like all medicines, Clonidine Tablets may cause side effects in some people, although not everybody gets them. The side effects described below are the most common experienced by people taking Clonidine Tablets:
dizziness, feeling tired and more relaxed than usual
feeling dizzy when you stand up
dry mouth
depression, sleeping problems
headache
constipation, feeling sick, pain below the ear, being sick
fatigue
Tell your doctor and seek medical assistance immediately if you notice any of the following:
serious allergic reaction
severe light-headedness or dizziness
numbness in the hands or feet
These are very serious side effects, and you may need urgent medical attention or hospitalisation.
Taking Clonidine Tablets can cause you to feel drowsy, dizzy, or could have some disturbances of vision. If you take alcohol, it can cause this effect to worsen.
