It can also be experienced by men, however less commonly. If you or someone you know might have thrush, keep reading to find out what it is exactly and how you can treat it, and learn how to order fluconazole with confidence!
What is thrush?
Thrush is a yeast infection caused by a species of fungus called ‘candida’, more specifically: ‘candida albicans’. This fungus usually resides on our skin without risk, however, due to environmental changes too much of it can grow, which causes thrush.
These environmental changes can be triggered by anything which upsets the natural balance of the micro-organisms living in our bodies. These can be caused by pregnancy or taking antibiotics, amongst other things which will be explored in the next section.
Thrush commonly occurs on the genitals, in the mouth, or on areas of skin that are warm or moist, such as in folds of skin. You can order fluconazole and other yeast infection medications online.
Who can it affect?
Thrush can affect anyone, however, there are some who are more susceptible to it. These include those who are:
- Immunosuppressed – People who are immunosuppressed have a weakened immune system. This can be due to health conditions, or because they are taking a particular type of medication, which suppresses the immune system.
- Diabetics – People with Diabetes are susceptible to thrush, due to having high levels of glucose in their blood, which increases the growth of candida fungus.
- Taking antibiotics – Antibiotics kill bacteria, and this imbalance can allow candida to thrive.
- Pregnant – Pregnant women are more susceptible to thrush due to rapid changes in hormone levels, which change the balance of bacteria.
- Babies Newborns and young infants have developing immune systems that are not yet fully equipped to effectively combat fungal infections like thrush. This makes them more vulnerable to the overgrowth of the Candida fungus, leading to the development of thrush.
- Adults over 65 – Both adults over 65 and babies are immunocompromised.
What are the symptoms of ‘thrush’?
- Vagina – Genital thrush in women can cause a white, odourless discharge. Its texture is often compared to that of cottage cheese. Thrush can also cause itching and irritation around the vagina, as well as soreness and stinging when peeing or having sex.
- Penis – For men, thrush can manifest in itching, burning and redness around the head of the penis, a white cottage cheese-like discharge and an unpleasant smell.
- Mouth – Oral thrush can cause symptoms such as white patches in the mouth, either a loss of taste or an unpleasant taste, redness, cracks, and a painful burning sensation in the mouth.
- Tongue– Most people have some degree of white coverage on their tongue, but if it becomes excessive, it can cause symptoms such as disturbances in taste and bad breath.
- Skin – Occurs in folds in areas such as armpits, the groin area, and between fingers. It can cause a rash with redness, itchiness and pain. Affected areas can present with a white or yellow discharge.
These symptoms are understandably uncomfortable, and lots of people with the condition can order fluconazole or other thrush medication online to relieve their symptoms quickly or go to a pharmacy in person.
How do I know if it is thrush?
If you have the above symptoms, it could be thrush.
However, if you have any uncertainty, you can visit your GP or local sexual health clinic for them to help you identify what is causing your symptoms. They will ask you about your symptoms and try to rule out any other potential causes. If they feel necessary, this may include an examination and some tests, such as a swab, to help identify the cause of your symptoms.
Ok… so if it is thrush, how is it treated?
Thrush is treated differently depending on the severity of the symptoms and whether they re-occur.
It is treated using anti-fungal medication, which works by killing the fungus that causes it. Clotrimazole is an antifungal medication used to treat thrush. This is commonly sold under the brand name ‘Canesten’. This medication can be ordered online and can be applied as a cream to the affected area or inserted into the vagina as a pessary.
Fluconazole is another anti-fungal used to treat thrush. This can be prescribed by a GP, or you can order fluconazole online. The general dose for genital thrush is 150mg, in a single dose. This may vary, however, if you are treating oral thrush or are experiencing a recurrent bout of the infection, in which case a longer course may be needed. If you are currently taking any other medication, make sure to consult a medical professional before you order Fluconazole, as it may interact with it.
Likewise, if you are pregnant, it is not recommended to take Fluconazole. If it is suitable, however, you can order fluconazole online to receive it quickly and efficiently.
If you are immunocompromised, it is important to seek professional advice on how best to manage thrush.
What are the side effects of these treatments?
- Clotrimazole
This medication can cause side effects of swelling and burning or prickling. When used in the vagina it can cause abdominal pain, discomfort, genital peeling, pelvic pain and vaginal haemorrhage.
- Fluconazole
Common side effects of this medication include diarrhoea, abdominal discomfort, headaches, nausea, skin reactions and vomiting. You can order Fluconazole online at e-Surgery.
Other ways to manage/prevent thrush
There are some other ways that you can manage the unpleasant symptoms of thrush:
- Use an emollient substitute for washing the area
- Avoiding soaps, bubble baths, shower gels, wipes, and ‘feminine hygiene products
- Avoiding douching
- Avoid tight-fitting clothing
- Avoid the use of ‘home remedies such as yoghurt, probiotics and oils.
- If you are a male, clean the area under the foreskin daily using warm water
A general rule of thumb would be to keep the area clean (without soap) and let it breathe.
