A new daily weight-loss pill is coming to the UK
Foundayo (Orforglipron) is a once-daily GLP-1 tablet developed by Eli Lilly for weight management. It has been approved in the United States, but is currently not licensed in the UK. It is expected to be launched at the end of August 2026.
What is Orforglipron?
Orforglipron is a new oral medicine developed for weight management. It belongs to a group of treatments called GLP-1 receptor agonists.
Unlike injectable GLP-1 treatments, orforglipron is taken as a tablet once a day. It is also a small-molecule medicine, which means it can be absorbed in tablet form without the same administration requirements as some peptide-based oral treatments.
Orforglipron has been studied in large Phase 3 clinical trials. However, it has not currently been confirmed as authorised for weight management in the UK. It is expected to be available at the end of August 2026.

Is Orforglipron the Mounjaro pill?
No. Although orforglipron and Mounjaro are both developed by Eli Lilly and are used in weight-management research and treatment, they are different medicines.
Mounjaro contains tirzepatide and is administered as a weekly injection. It acts on both GIP and GLP-1 receptors.
Orforglipron is a daily tablet containing a different active ingredient. It acts on the GLP-1 receptor and does not contain tirzepatide.
What did the clinical trial find?
The main Phase 3 obesity study, called ATTAIN-1, examined orforglipron alongside healthy eating and increased physical activity for 72 weeks.*

How does Orforglipron work?
Orforglipron activates GLP-1 receptors in the body. GLP-1 is involved in appetite, digestion and blood glucose regulation.

How is it taken?
The US-authorised version of orforglipron is taken once daily and can be taken at any time of day without restrictions concerning food or water.

Does orforglipron have side effects?
Yes. Side effects were reported during clinical trials. The most common were gastrointestinal effects similar to those seen with other GLP-1 receptor agonists.
