What is Genital Herpes?

Genital herpes is a sexually transmitted infection caused by the herpes simplex virus. Genital herpes is spread by vaginal, anal and oral sex. Genital herpes sores typically appear as blisters on or around the genitals, rectum or mouth. The blisters then break and can leave painful sores that may a few days to heal. This is sometimes caused “an outbreak” and can be precipitated by stress or other illness.

Genital herpes is a difficult condition to treat but can usually be easily treated with antiviral tablets. Genital herpes treatment is available online from e-Surgery.

What are the symptoms of Genital Herpes?

Symptoms of genital herpes can range from:

  • Small red sores and rashes without pain or itchiness near the genital area.
  • Itching around genitals
  • Burning sensation when passing urine
  • Swollen lymph glands
  •  Headaches

Visit a sexual health clinic immediately if you have

  • small blisters that burst to leave red, open sores around your genitals, anus, thighs, or bottom
  • tingling, burning, or itching around your genitals
  • pain when you pee
  • in women, vaginal discharge that’s not usual for you

The above symptoms can also be signs of genital herpes. It is important to go to a sexual health clinic and ask about genital herpes treatment even if you have not had sex for a long time, as blisters can take months or years to appear.

How do I know if I need Genital Herpes treatment?

There are a few ways you can be diagnosed with genital herpes. If you are experiencing symptoms you should go see your GP or visit a sexual health clinic so a professional can view the sores.

You could send a sample of your urine to get tested using one of the free kits provided by the NHS or your nearest sexual health clinic.

You could also get a blood test done by a GP or sexual health nurse to determine if you have the virus. They will then be able to start you on a course of genital heroes treatment.
