Cerelle Mini Pill is a contraceptive medication for women. It is also known as Progestogen Only Pill (POP). Cerelle Mini Pill can stop you from becoming pregnant but cannot protect you from STIs (Sexually Transmitted Infections).
Cerelle Mini Pill contains the female sex hormone Desogestrel. Desogestrel works as a female contraceptive because it thickens the mucus within the cervix, preventing the sperm from reaching the egg. It can also prevent ovulation. Cerelle Mini Pill doesn’t contain any other female sex hormone. This means that the Cerelle Mini Pill is an effective contraception for women who have experienced issues with combined pills that contain Oestrogen.
Cerelle Mini Pill is taken once daily with a glass of water. You should take Cerelle Mini Pill at the same time each day. Helpfully, Cerelle Mini Pill strips are labelled with the days of the week and an arrow telling you the order in which to take them. You should always take your Cerelle Mini Pill on the day of the week that has been marked and continue taking the tablets daily in the direction of the arrow until the 28 tablet strip is empty.
Once you’ve finished a strip of Cerelle Mini Pill, you need to start the next strip the following day for the medication to remain effective.
You can take Cerelle Mini Pill at any point in your menstrual cycle, but it will be most effective as a contraceptive when taken during the first 5 days of your period. If you start Cerelle Mini Pill at any other point during your period, you will need to use additional contraception in order to be protected from pregnancy for at least 7 days.
If you forget to take a Cerelle Mini Pill and are less than 12 hours late, simply take the tablet as soon as you remember and then take your next tablet at the usual time. This may mean taking two pills in the same day – this is fine. Cerelle Mini Pill will still function as a contraceptive.
If you are more than 12 hours late, take the Cerelle Mini Pill as soon as you remember and then take your next tablet at the usual time. However, you may not be protected against pregnancy. This means that if you are more than 12 hours late to take your Cerelle Mini Pill, you must use additional contraception to prevent pregnancy. You will need to use this extra conception for at least 2 days.

As these are combined contraceptive tablets, they are different to Cerelle Mini Pill, which only contains one female sex hormone (Desogestrel).
