This Testosterone Deficiency Initial Detection Test is a blood test that can help diagnose testosterone deficiency. You need to have two blood tests showing low testosterone, taken at least 4 weeks apart before we can make a diagnosis of testosterone deficiency. This is for the first of those two tests. The test is taken at a nearby drop-in phlebotomy clinic.
Important information about this test:

• Benefits of test: Testosterone level can help diagnose testosterone deficiency and work out the underlying cause.
• Risks of test: Abnormal unexpected test results may need further investigations which could include blood tests, scans and biopsies depending on the result.
• Limitations of test: This is not a perfect test. All blood tests can have false positives and false negatives.

• Ideally your blood test should be taken at least 8 hours since you last ate food, and between 7am and 11am if practical.
• A second, more comprehensive confirmatory blood test will be needed in 4 weeks’ time if the first test suggest testosterone deficiency. There is an additional charge for this second test.
